Scott Stevens, Pastor
It is truly an honor for my wife Karla and I to be serving here at Edgebrook Church. Though we are a small church, I think you will find that Edgebrook church is one of the warmest groups of people you will ever meet. And even though Karla and I have only been a part of the church for a short time, they have embraced us like family.
For a little background, Karla and I both grew up in the suburbs of Chicago before becoming Christians. Of all places, I became a follower of Jesus as a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin in Madison (out of the party scene). Karla embraced Christ out of another religious tradition as a 20 something with the help of the ministry of Willow Creek Community Church.
For college, Karla attended St. Olaf in Minnesota before receiving a Masters in Occupational Therapy from Rush University in Chicago.
After graduating from Wisconsin, I earned a Master of Arts in Biblical Studies from the Moody Graduate School before earning a Master of Divinity from Denver Seminary in 1999.
Karla worked as a pediatric O.T. for 10 years at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, IL., before working at Mt. Sinai Hospital’s Schwab Rehab Center in Chicago for a time. These days, she works part time for the State of Illinois in their Early Intervention program for young children with various developmental delays.
After graduating from seminary in 1999, I was on staff at Park Community Church in various capacities for 6 years. We were married in 2006 and after our honeymoon, helped New Life Community Church plant their Tri-Taylor campus. During that time, I worked for the Rosetta Stone Language Learning Software Company in their sales division.
But most importantly, our greates desire is to know God more deeply and to become more fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ! And we believe God has called us to help as many people as we can to come to not only embrace Christ as their God but to also become fully devoted followers of Him!
AND WE BELIEVE GOD’S VISION FOR EDGEBROOK CHURCH IS ONE WORD, G-R-O-W-T-H… SPIRITUAL AND NUMERICAL GROWTH ONE LIFE AT A TIME!
I am glad to be able to write that most days, Karla and I are personally experiencing more and more intimacy with God and we love it! As a result, we are also continuing to experience tremendous life change even though we both have a long way to go to be like Jesus. We can also honestly write that there is nothing better on the planet (God knows, I have tried just about everything else) than a right relationship with God made possible by faith in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
My spiritual gifts are shepherding, leadership and preaching. When I am not preparing messages, I like to spend as much time with my flock as I can while trying to keep the organization moving forward. Karla’s gifts are administration, hospitality and mercy. She has a special passion to minster to children with disabilities. I am so blessed to have her as my wife!
So, if you are searching for meaning and purpose in life and if you are interested in being a part of a group of people who are serious about building authentic Biblical community. And, if you are looking for a pastor who would like to not only meet and pray with you, but who would also like to get to know you, then Edgebrook Church may be the place for you. For more information and/or to send us a prayer request and/or to set up a time to get together, email Karla at karla-stevens@sbcglobal.net
